📖 Qur’anic FAQs: Jesus, Mary, and the Prophetic Lineage
❓ 1) Are all prophets sent with the same core message in the Qur’an?
Yes. Allah sent prophets to every nation with a consistent message: worship Him alone and avoid false deities.
Qur’an 16:36 – “…And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger [saying], ‘Worship Allah and avoid Taghūt (false objects of worship)…’”
❓ 2) Does the Qur’an confirm earlier scriptures?
Yes. The Qur’an confirms previous revelations from Allah:
Qur’an 3:3 – “…It is He who sent down upon you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming what was before it…”
Qur’an 5:48 – “…And We have revealed to you the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it…”
❓ 3) What does the “Seal of the Prophets” mean?
It indicates that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the final messenger sent by Allah:
Qur’an 33:40 – “Muhammad is… the Messenger of Allah and Seal of the Prophets.”
❓ 4) Is ʿĪsā (Jesus) part of the prophetic lineage?
Yes. He is a prophet of Allah, born of Maryam (Mary):
Qur’an 3:45 – “…O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary…”
Qur’an 19:34 – “This is Jesus, the son of Mary — a statement of truth…”
❓ 5) Why “son of Mary”?
It emphasises that ʿĪsā was born of Maryam, not as divine offspring:
Qur’an 19:34 – “…Such is ʿĪsā (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary). It is a statement of truth about which they dispute.”
❓ 6) Does the Qur’an honour Maryam highly?
Yes. Allah distinguished her:
Qur’an 3:42 – “…Allah has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds.”
Qur’an 21:91 – “…And (remember) she who guarded her chastity… And We made her and her son a sign for the worlds.”
❓ 7) Are prophets linked back to Abraham?
Yes. Abraham is ancestor to many prophets and establishes the line of prophethood:
Qur’an 29:27 – “…And We bestowed on him [Ibrahim] Ishaqu (Isaac) and Yaʿqūb (Jacob), and placed in his descendants prophethood and the Book…”
❓ 8) Are all prophets honoured equally?
Yes. The Qur’an honours all prophets as messengers of Allah, giving guidance and examples.
Qur’an 60:4 – “…There has already been for you a good example in Abraham and those with him…”
Yet Muhammad ﷺ is the final messenger (Qur’an 33:40), completing the line of prophecy.
❓ 9) How many times per day does the Qur’an instruct to pray?
The Qur’an outlines prayer at specific times of day.
Qur’an 11:114 states:
“…And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night…”
This refers to three daily prayers:
- Morning – at the beginning of the day
- Midday/afternoon – at the decline of the sun
- Evening/night – as darkness approaches
These times establish a rhythm of devotion and remembrance of Allah throughout the day.
