🌿 Introduction
Prophet ʿĪsā, known as Jesus in Christianity, is one of the most revered messengers in Islam. Born miraculously to Maryam (Mary), he was entrusted with guiding the Children of Israel and calling them back to the worship of Allah alone. His mission underscores mercy, righteousness, and the continuity of divine guidance.
The Qur’an honours his birth and mission:
“Indeed, the example of ʿĪsā in the sight of Allah is like that of Adam. He created him from dust; then He said to him, ‘Be,’ and he was.” — Qur’an 3:59
🕊️ Life and Ministry
From his miraculous birth, ʿĪsā demonstrated clear signs of prophethood. He preached monotheism, performed miracles by Allah’s permission, and reminded his people of their covenant with Allah. His message emphasised humility, compassion, and justice.
Key aspects of his ministry include:
• Healing the sick and aiding the needy by Allah’s will
• Calling to worship Allah alone and uphold prayer
• Affirming moral responsibility and righteous conduct
His mission reinforced the same message brought by the prophets before him — devotion to Allah and adherence to divine guidance.
⚖️ Trials and Divine Wisdom
Prophet ʿĪsā faced opposition and disbelief from segments of his community. Despite rejection, he remained patient and steadfast, relying fully on Allah.
The Qur’an states:
“And We strengthened him with the Holy Spirit.” — Qur’an 2:87
His life reflects a key Qur’anic principle: that truth is often met with resistance, yet Allah supports His messengers and preserves their mission.
🌿 Connection to Prophet Yahya (John)
Prophet Yahya preceded ʿĪsā, preparing the Children of Israel for his message and calling them back to righteousness.
This continuity between prophets demonstrates how Allah guides humanity across generations — each messenger confirming the truth that came before and reinforcing the same call to worship Allah alone.
🕊️ The Second Coming
The Qur’an teaches that ʿĪsā was not killed but was raised by Allah, and that his story is part of a greater divine plan.
“And [for] their saying, ‘Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, ʿĪsā, son of Maryam, the Messenger of Allah.’ But they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but it was made to appear so to them…” — Qur’an 4:157
“And Allah raised him to Himself. And Allah is Ever Mighty, Wise.” — Qur’an 4:158
His return is associated with the restoration of justice and the fulfilment of divine decree before the Day of Judgment.
🌿 Reflection
Prophet ʿĪsā exemplifies mercy, steadfastness, and complete devotion to Allah. His life reminds believers to remain firm in faith, uphold justice, and trust in divine wisdom, even in times of difficulty.
His story connects past revelation with future fulfilment, reinforcing that guidance comes from Allah alone and continues across time.
“Peace is upon me the day I was born, the day I die, and the day I am raised alive.” — Qur’an 19:33
