🌍✨ Prophet Ādam (Adam, pbuh) and Shīth (Seth)
Creation, guidance, and the beginning of humanity in the Qur’an
Prophet Ādam (pbuh) is recognised in the Qur’an as the first human being and the first prophet. Allah created him as the beginning of humanity and honoured him with knowledge, responsibility, and direct guidance.
Through Ādam began the story of human life on earth — a story of purpose, trial, repentance, and divine mercy. His son, Shīth (Seth), continued this legacy, carrying forward the message of worshipping Allah alone.
The Qur’an highlights the noble origin of humanity:
“And We have certainly created you, [O mankind], and given you form…” — Quran 7:11
This story establishes the foundation of human identity: created by Allah, guided by revelation, and accountable for one’s actions.
🧬🤲🏿 The Creation of Ādam
Allah created Ādam from clay and breathed into him from His روح, granting him life and honour above many of His creations.
“And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, ‘Indeed, I will create a human being from clay.’” — Quran 38:71
Allah taught Ādam the names of all things, demonstrating the knowledge and intellect given to humanity:
“And He taught Adam the names — all of them…” — Quran 2:31
This knowledge distinguished Ādam and established his role as a vicegerent (khalīfah) on earth.
🤲🏿📜 The Honour of Ādam
Allah commanded the angels to prostrate to Ādam as a sign of respect and recognition of his status. All obeyed except Iblīs, who refused out of arrogance.
“And [mention] when We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate to Adam,’ and they prostrated, except for Iblis…” — Quran 2:34
Iblīs’ refusal marked the beginning of enmity between him and humanity, teaching the dangers of pride, disobedience, and rebellion against Allah.
🌴⚖️ Life in Paradise and the Test
Ādam and his wife were placed in Paradise and allowed to enjoy its blessings freely, with one command: not to approach a specific tree.
“But do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers.” — Quran 2:35
However, Iblīs whispered to them, deceiving them into disobedience. They ate from the tree, becoming aware of their vulnerability.
“Then Satan whispered to them…” — Quran 7:20
This represents the first human test — a lesson in free will, temptation, and accountability.
🤲🏿🌧️ Repentance and Mercy
After their mistake, Ādam and his wife turned to Allah in sincere repentance:
“Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.” — Quran 7:23
Allah accepted their repentance, demonstrating His mercy and readiness to forgive:
“Then his Lord chose him and turned to him in forgiveness and guided him.” — Quran 20:122
This establishes a central theme in Islam: no sin is beyond forgiveness if one sincerely repents.
🌍⬇️ Descent to Earth
Ādam and his wife were sent down to earth, marking the beginning of human life in the worldly realm.
“We said, ‘Go down from it, all of you…’” — Quran 2:38
Although this followed their mistake, it was part of Allah’s greater plan — a life of testing, guidance, and eventual return to Him.
“And when guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance — there will be no fear concerning them…” — Quran 2:38
👨👦📖 Shīth (Seth) and the Continuation of Guidance
After Ādam, the responsibility of guiding humanity continued through his descendants. Among them was his son Shīth (Seth), who preserved the message of monotheism and righteousness.
While the Qur’an does not mention Shīth by name, it emphasises that guidance continued through generations:
“Mankind was [of] one religion; then Allah sent the prophets…” — Quran 2:213
Shīth represents the continuation of early guidance — maintaining worship of Allah alone and the moral path established by Ādam.
📖✨ Lessons from the Story of Ādam

🤲🏿🌙 Reflection
The story of Prophet Ādam marks the beginning of human history and the foundation of the relationship between الإنسان and Allah. It is a story of creation, responsibility, error, and redemption.
Through Ādam, humanity learns that mistakes are part of the human experience, but returning to Allah is the path to success. His legacy, continued through descendants like Shīth, reminds believers that guidance has always been present for those who seek it.
